Description of herb

Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis) - 20-50 cm tall semi-shrub, which blooms from July to September and grows for up to 5 years, occurs mainly in the Mediterranean.

This highly aromatic herb has been used as a medicinal plant and culinary spice since ancient times and has also been artificially grown since the 10th century.

In gastronomy, it is used to season roast meat, soups, sauces, salads, pickled vegetables, pâtés and poultry stuffings. It is indispensable in herbal liqueurs.

Healing effects

For internally use
Hyssop is diuretic, decays, helps with poor urination, stimulates appetite, has laxative effects, disperses winds, strengthens nerves and eyesight, soothes pain, cough and cramps, acts against rheumatism, TB, has anti-inflammatory effects. It stimulates digestion, it is used for nervous exhaustion.

Hyssop is used mainly in the treatment of bronchi, constipation, cough, bronchitis, asthma, etc., where it has a disinfectant and antibiotic effect. It has a similar effect on the urinary tract.

It also has a beneficial effect on the digestive tract, it is effective for inflammation, dyspeptic problems associated with bloating or chronic intestinal catarrh.

It acts as a mild tonic, stimulates the body, which can be advantageously used especially in the treatment of the elderly. When cold, it prevents night sweats and especially menopausal sweating.

When applied externally
Externally like compresses and baths for eczema, bruises and non-healing wounds. Soothes itchy scalp and removes dandruff.

Active substances

The dried flowering stem of Hyssop (Herba Hyssopi) contains 0.3 to 1% of essential oil, in which the main components are pinene, pinocamphon, isopinocamphon, limonene and sabinen, there is also the flavone glycoside hesperidin, about 8% tannins, bitterness, marubiin, organic acids (eg rosemary acid), minerals and some resins.

Preparation and dosing

TEA

Preparation: Pour 1 teaspoon of herb over 250 ml of boiling water, infuse under the lid for 10 minutes.

Dosing: Drink twice a day.

 

HYSSOP MASSAGE OIL:

Preparation: Put a handful of finely cut herbs in a bottle, pour 500 ml of quality oil (olive, sunflower). With occasional mixing, macerate for 2 weeks. Drain and store in the cold.

Use: We use it for massages of paralyzed limbs and spine, after sudden strokes.
